How to Play Winning Poker Online

Winning piles of cash at online poker

Playing tight but aggressive poker is key to being successful with online poker playing. Play tight in the sense of being selective on what hands you actually play. In online poker it is best to fold weak starting hands.  Learn the best starting hands and try and stick with playing those. After the flop, you do not have to go to showdown simply because you have flopped a pair. Knowing when you may be behind, or when the price is just too high to stay in the hand, is key to being a winning poker player.

Winning poker players play aggressive when it comes to position and betting their hands. You do not want to be a player that is simply calling bets. Raise and re-raise when you are in position and have a top hand. When other players have to play before you, take advantage of the fact that you see how they are playing and betting their hands. Everyone develops their own personal style of poker playing. However, sticking to these rules can help you win.

One of the most important keys to playing winning online poker is Bankroll Management. In online poker you want to make lot when your winning, while limiting the amount you can lose at any given time you are playing. By using Bankroll Management it will help you to grow not lose your available bankroll. Most successful online poker players stick to the bankroll management rule of '25 Buy In'. Here is how that works;

  • You only play in cash games where your bankroll allows you to buy in with 100 big blinds worth of starting money at least 25 times.
  •  Determine your starting level using this rule. Once you have 25 big blinds worth of buy in's for the next level(s) then you can move up. If you must move down then do so.
  • Always join a table with a 100 big blind blind equivalent buy in. If you do not, you are making yourself a target for the other players.
If you do not use solid bankroll management, no matter how good a player you are, it is just not likely that you will succeed in winning at online poker.
